Custom Video Metadata Fields

Use Custom Fields To Display Relevant Video Information (metadata) In Your Video Apps

Custom Fields

StreamingVideoProvider now gives you the ability to create Custom Fields. This allows you to add custom metadata to your videos which get displayed in your video applications. This is extremely useful if you want to provide your viewers with extra information about your videos. For example if you have some video seminars and tutorials you could automatically display the speaker name, outline, contact information and links to related documents. Giving you the freedom to display the information that’s right for your video library.

CUSTOM FIELD OPTIONS:

  • FIELD NAME – This allows you to assign a personalised name to a custom field which will be displayed in the video settings section for easy identification.

  • FIELD TYPE – Here you can choose the field type and format for your entries. These include Text, Radio buttons, Drop down lists, Radio Groups, Float Numbers and many more.

CUSTOM FIELD DISPLAYED DATA TYPES:

  • Text – You can automatically display pure text and text with titles in your Video Applications.

  • Links – You can automatically display clickable links in your Video Applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the custom fields and their metadata for?

  1. Each video has got four standard metadata fields: Title, Short description, Long description and Tags. If you want to create custom ones you can do so with the custom fields system. For example: Name, Date of birth, Language, etc… You can then fill these fields via the user interface or use them in the Externally Embedded Uploader where your users can upload videos whilst filling in the custom metadata. Then you can publish the videos including their metadata fields on your website in the form of video apps.

Where can I see more info about the External Embedded Uploader ?

Find more information about externally embeded uploaders

Can I add same field multiple times in one form?

No, each field needs to have a different name to be able to be identified in from within the database.

What are the metadata forms?

You can create multiple forms with different variations of metadata fields. In your Video Panel > Media section > Media Properties, you can then load a specific form and work with the custom fields that are part of it. Different viewers may want to work with different forms so we made it possible to switch between forms easily.

Will I loose the entered data if I switch between forms?

No, all data is saved in the internal database and can be called upon once the form has been switched.

If I modify one field or delete a field that is part of multiple forms, would that reflect on all forms?

Yes. If you delete a specific field, all the data associated will also be deleted.
