FLASH & Terms

In this article I will give you some basic terms which you have to know about the FLASH video. When you create, upload or just watch flash video file this information will be very helpfull for you. So I will disclaim the term for FLASH because everybody knows what it mean and let’s continue with more important issues. You should be familiar with the following terms:

  • FLV: This acronym refers to the Flash Video (FLV) format used by Flash CS3 Professional and Flash Media Server.
  • FLVPlayback components: This term refers to the Flash CS3 Professional components built to display FLV files.
  • Cue points: These are markers in Flash video that are used for synchronization with the SWF file.
  • Progressive video: This is an FLV file that must be downloaded to the browser's cache before it can be played in Flash.
  • Streaming video: This is an FLV file that is streamed down from a server running Flash Media Server such that it can be played immediately while it is being downloaded.
  • Sections: There are five sections in the presentation; each section is represented by its own content screen containing a video clip, captions, and navigation buttons.
  • Chapters: Each section's video clip contains cue points that mark chapters within the video.
